Zunar’s “To Fight Through Cartoon US” Organised by University of Louisville and Asia Institute

The tour will begin at Louisville, where I will be giving an opening speech in conjunction to my solo exhibition “To Fight Through Cartoon” held in the Art Gallery at Crane House.

The exhibition has taken place since last June and will be around for three

months. It exhibits 40 pieces of my artworks from 1998 until present. This is my first exhibition held in a professional overseas gallery. The curators for the exhibition are Bryan Warren and Lauren Prezbindowski.

After the event at the gallery, I will be giving a lecture at the University of Louisville. Apart from that, I will be participating in a forum on Political Cartoonists which will also be attended by the local political cartoonists such as the Pulitzer Prize award winner, Joel Pett. I will also be conducting a Cartoon Workshop for the public.

After Louisville, I will be holding a dialogue session with the Malaysians in New York and Washington. I am also invited to attend the Annual Convention of the

Association of the American Editorial Cartoonist at San Francisco on the 9th of October for three days. Apart from the convention, there will be two separate programs to be held with the Malaysians and the locals in San Francisco. There will also be a screening of my short film, “To Fight Through Cartoon”, a live cartoon drawing, a question and answer session and lastly an auction of my artworks at the end of the San Francisco leg.

The tour will end with a program held in Los Angeles with the Malaysians. Programs will include a speech, a slide show and a question and answer session.

Tour akan bermula di Lousville di mana saya akan berucap sempena pameran solo saya “To Fight Through Cartoon” di Crane House, sebuah galeri seni. Pameran yang memuat 40 karya saya sejak 1998 hingga sekarang itu berlangsung selama tiga bulan
sejak Jun lepas. Ini adalah pameran pertama saya yang dibuat dalam galeri profesional di luar negara. Kurator bagi pameran ini ialah Bryan Warren dan Lauren Prezbindowski.

Selepas itu, saya juga akan memberi lecture di University of Louisville. Selain daripada itu, saya juga akan mengambil bahagian dalam forum mengenai kartunis politik dengan kartunis-kartunis tempatan, termasuk pemenang anugerah Pulitzer Prize, Joel Pett. Saya juga akan mengadakan bengkel melukis kartun untuk orang
awam di situ.

Di New York dan Washington, saya akan mengadakan majlis dialog dengan rakyat Malaysia di kedua-dua bandar itu. Di San Francisco, saya akan menghadiri sebagai tetamu Konvensyen Tahunan The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists selama tiga hari bermula 9 Oktober.

Selain itu, di San Francisco juga dua program berasingan bersama rakyat Malaysia dan penduduk tempatan akan diadakan. Acara termasuk tayangan filem pendek saya, To Fight Through Cartoon, melukis secara live dan sesi soal jawab serta lelongan
lukisan.

Tour diakhir dengan program di Los Angeles bersama rakyat Malaysia di sana. Acara ialah ucapan, tayangan slide dan sesi soal jawab.
