Lawak & Lawan is a protest book. The printer’s name has been black-out to challenge the requirement by the Printing Presses and Publications Act (PPPA). Upon conviction, Zunar may face up to one year imprisonment, a fine of up to RM5,000, or both. Zunar said that he had previously complied with the requirement under Section 11(2) of the PPPA, only to have his printers raided by the authorities. “I know this would be contrary to the law, but I have a moral obligation to fight against draconian laws such as the PPPA.“I am ready to face legal risk for my action,” the cartoonist said.

Concept: Cartoons for the people, retaining similar message about corruption and abuse of power by the BN government. This time, however, the author intends to raise public awareness through cartoons.

“The title Lawak & Lawan (Fun & Fight) also reflects my determination as a cartoonist to fight with the rakyat to topple the BN regime,” he added.

Lawak & Lawan diterbit sebagai protes di mana nama pencetak di muka surat dalam dipadamkan – bertentangan dengan peraturan di bawah Akta Mesin Cetak dan Penerbitan 1984. Zunar berkata sebelum ini dia sentiasa mematuhi paeraturan di bawah akta tersebut, tetapi ini digunakan oleh pihak berkuasa untuk meyerbu dan mengugut kilang pencetak.

Konsep ‘Kartun Untuk Rakyat’, Lawak & Lawan tetap mengekal mesej yang sama iaitu mengenai rasuah dan salahguna kuasa oleh kerajaan BN, cuma kali dia mahu membangkitkan kesedaran rakyat melaui karya kartun.

Tajuk ‘Kartun Untuk Rakyat’ juga mencerminkan hasrat Zunar untuk menjatuhkan kerajaan zalim BN melalui kartun.
