Book “Pirate Of The Carry-BN” accepted in the Library Of Congress.

I hereby announce that my book, “Pirate of The Carry-BN” has been accepted as one of the collection at the Library Of Congress in Washington. The reception was held at the Library on October 1st, 2014.

Curator Sara W Duke, who is the curator of Popular and Applied Graphic Art in the Prints and Photographs Division of the Library of Congress, has accepted on behalf of the Library.

It will be located and catalogued in the bookshelves of the Asia Section of the library. Prior to this, there are books of mine that have been listed but only recorded in catalogues while physically not in the Library.

The “Pirate Of The Carry-BN” will be one of the more than 120,000 cartoon books in the library.

To me, this is a form of recognition since none of my cartoon books are recognized and even banned by the Malaysian government.

The 200-year old Library of Congress is the largest library in the world with a collection of over 3 million books and 33 million catalogued books.

The “Pirate Of The Carry-BN” is not available in any library in Malaysia due to the government restrictions. For the same reason, it also cannot be sold in any shop in Malaysia. This program is part of the month-long “To Fight Through Cartoon” American tour starting September 15th, 2014. During this tour, I also held a solo cartoon exhibition at an art gallery of The Crane House in Louisville.

I also gave lectures on art and journalism at the University of East Kentucky, the University of West Kentucky, Manual High School and Berea College. Also, I will be holding a forum for Malaysians in New York City and San Francisco.

In San Francisco, I will be attending as a guest of the Annual Convention of The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists for three days from October 9th, 2014.

Zunar has been arrested and detained under the Sedition Act for drawing cartoons. Seven of his

books are banned by the Malaysian government, his office has been raided twice by enforcers, the

printing factories that print his books are constantly raided and vendors throughout the country are

often warned not to sell his books.

Buku “Pirate Of The Carry-BN” diterima di Library Of Congress.

Saya dengan ini mengumumkan bahawa buku saya, “Pirate of The Carry-BN” telah diterima sebagai salah sebuah buku koleksi di Library Of Congress di Washington.

Majlis penerimaan itu telah diadakan di perpustakaan tersebut pada 1 Oktober 2014. Kurator Sara G Duke, yang merupakan kurator untuk Seni Grafik Popular dan Gunaan di dalam Divisyen Percetakan dan Fotografi di Library of Congress, menerima buku saya bagi pihak perpustakaan.

Ia akan ditempatkan dan dikatalogkan di rak buku di Asia Section di dalam perpustakaan tersebut. Sebelum ini, walaupun ada buku saya yang disenarai, ia hanya di dalam rekod katalog; bererti tidak ujud secara fizikal.

Buku “Pirate Of The Carry-BN” akan menjadi salah satu daripada lebih 120,000 buku kartun di perpustakaan itu.

Bagi saya, ini adalah satu bentuk penghargaan memandangkan kesemua buku-buku kartun saya tidak diiktiraf, malah diharamkan oleh kerajaan Malaysia.

Library of Congress yang berusia 200 tahun adalah library terbesar di dunia dengan lebih 3 juta koleksi buku dan 33 juta dalam bentuk katalog.

Buku “Pirate Of The Carry-BN” tidak terdapat di mana-mana perpustakaan di Malaysia kerana kekangan kerajaan. Ia juga tidak dapat dijual di mana-mana kedai di Malaysia atas sebab yang sama. Program ini adalah sebahagian daripada “To Fight Through Cartoon” jelajah Amerika selama sebulan bermula dari 15 September 2014. Dalam tour ini, saya juga mengadakan pameran kartun solo di sebuah galeri seni, The Crane House di Louisville.

Saya juga memberi kuliah mengenai seni dan kewartawanan di University of East Kentucky, University of West Kentucky, Manual High School dan Berea College. Saya juga akan mengadakan forum dengan rakyat Malaysia di Bandaraya New York dan San Francisco.

Di San Francisco, saya akan menghadiri sebagai tetamu Konvensyen Tahunan The Association of American Editorial Cartoonists selama tiga hari bermula 9 Oktober 2014.

Zunar adalah kartunis politik yang pernah ditahan di bawah Akta Hasutan kerana melukis kartun. Tujuh buku beliau diharam oleh kerajaan.  Zunar adalah penerima anugerah “Keberanian Dalam Melukis Kartun Editorial 2011” oleh Rangkaian Hak Asasi Kartunis, Washington.
