The word "Pink" is a direct satirical jab at the favorite color palette and extravagant tastes of Rosmah Mansor, the wife of then-Prime Minister Najib Razak. Zunar explicitly stated that the book's core mission was to fight political oppression through humor, encouraging citizens to use laughter to strip power from the corrupt ruling regime Zunar. The book faced severe pre-emptive pushback from pro-government groups Under threat, Zunar to abort 'ketawa pink pink' exhibition in Penang. Sapuman: Man of Steal
Sep 2015
Publisher: Ranuza Enterprise
Length: 126 pages
Price: RM26
Status: Banned in October 2017 under the Printing Presses and Publications Act. The ban was officially lifted by the Ministry of Home Affairs on August 2, 2018.
SAPUMAN: MAN OF STEAL is a collection of over 150 political drawings. The title is a clever linguistic play on the Malay word sapu (meaning to grab, wipe out, or snatch) and the iconic superhero Superman. The book strongly focuses on the multi-billion dollar 1MDB state fund scandal, poking fun at the massive donations funneled into then-Prime Minister Najib Razak's accounts while satirizing his wife, Rosmah Mansor. Zunar cheekily noted that the launch price of RM26 was a deliberate nod to the infamous RM2.6 billion political funding controversy. At the time of publication, no local printer dared to print his work; Zunar had to print the book secretly and omit the printer's name from the front pages. Two years after its release, on October 3, 2017, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a nationwide ban, which Zunar immediately challenged in the High Court. Following a change in the federal government, the ministry officially reversed its decision on August 2, 2018, completely lifting the ban. The book's concept gained significant international prominence; following Najib Razak’s electoral defeat on May 10, 2018, the editor of The New York Times contacted Zunar to request permission to use his phrase "Man of Steal" as a major newspaper headline.
WASABI (Wa Sapu Billion)
May 2016
Publisher: Ranuza Enterprise
Length: 126 pages
Price: RM26
This collection compiles more than 150 drawings satirizing the multi-billion dollar 1MDB state fund controversy. Similar to his previous book Sapuman, Zunar deliberately set the launch retail price at RM26 as a symbolic protest against the RM2.6 billion political "donation" discovered inside Prime Minister Najib Razak's private bank accounts. The release of WASABI faced extreme government pushback and street-level suppression later that year. In November 2016, during Zunar's art exhibition in Penang meant to showcase drawings from the book, a hostile pro-government mob aggressively raided the venue and disrupted the event. The following day, police arrested Zunar under the Sedition Act 1948. Due to his police detention, the official regional promotional launch of the book scheduled for the George Town Literary Festival (GTLF) had to be replaced by a silent protest organized by fellow authors and human rights advocates.
Ros in Kangkong Land
Feb 2015
Publisher: Ranuza Enterprise
Length: 128 pages
Price: RM25
Status: Investigated under the Sedition Act and the Printing Presses and Publications Act. Known as Zunar's "hottest" book, it was targeted with heavy police raids, instant book confiscations, and multiple launch disruptions.
Zunar created this book immediately upon his release after spending three days in a police lockup. The title explicitly parodies Rosmah Mansor (the wife of then-Prime Minister Najib Razak) and lampoons her notoriously extravagant lifestyle, alongside sharp critiques of national corruption scandals. The publication heavily angered the authorities. On February 28, more than 20 police officers raided the physical launching event in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, forcing Zunar to cancel the program under immediate threats of arrest and further inventory seizure. Prior to this, his earlier attempts to launch the book were also blocked by police with threats of arrest. Furthermore, police intercepted and confiscated copies of the book directly from the printing company's van as it was transporting them to the launch venue.
Twit-Twit, Cincin
May 2017
Publisher: Cin Cin Enterprise / Zunar
Length: 186 pages
Price: RM30
Status: Targeted for seizure by the government, prompting the author to use an alternative, creative distribution method to evade instant police confiscation.
The title directly parodies two major elements of political corruption and overreach in Malaysia at the time. The phrase "Twit-Twit" mocks the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), whom Zunar dubbed the "National Twitter Chief" (Ketua Twitter Negara) due to his habit of ordering police investigations via tweets. Meanwhile, "Cin Cin" (meaning rings in Malay) is a direct satirical reference to the multi-million dollar luxury diamond rings famously associated with Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Prime Minister Najib Razak. The book compiles sharp illustrations targeting the suppression of free expression and the questionable use of power by enforcement authorities.

Melukis Dengan Hati
Jul 2025
Publisher: University Book Store Malaysia
Length: 230 pages (Full-color hardcover)
Price: RM200
Subtitled Biografi Perjalanan Seni 50 tahun Kartunis Zunar (Drawing with Heart), this book is a comprehensive artistic autobiography and career memoir written by Zunar to commemorate his 50-year journey in the field of cartooning. The book was created based on his core philosophy: "A drawing drawn with the hand reaches the eyes, but a drawing drawn with the heart reaches the heart." The text provides an exhaustive chronological look back at his life, beginning from 1976 when his very first drawing was published in Bambino magazine, all the way to the present day.The memoir is structurally divided into four pivotal eras of his career: his formative school years, the Gila-Gila and Berita Harian era, the explosion of the Reformasi movement alongside Malaysiakini, and finally, his high-stakes fight during the 1MDB scandal. In stark contrast to his past book launches—which were routinely shut down or raided by the police—this hardcover volume was officially launched on July 22, 2025, at the Pustaka Raja Tun Uda library in Shah Alam. Strikingly, the event was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In his launch speech, the Prime Minister praised Zunar’s steadfast conviction, acknowledging that while his drawings were sharp and uncompromising, they offered vital, risk-defying insights during Malaysia's dark eras of restricted artistic expression. The book stands as permanent documentation of the severe challenges he faced, including his multiple arrests, legal trials, book bans, and international travel blocks. In this book, Zunar also explains the philosophy behind his cartooning process, including his famous mantras: "How Can I be Neutral, Even My Pen Has a Stand" and "Talent is Not A Gift, Talent is a Responsibility.

Politik Caca Marba: Kartun2 Era PN
Nov 2020
Publisher: Ranuza Enterprise
Length: 170 cartoon illustrations
Price: RM30
The Malay phrase caca marba translates directly to "chaotic," "messy," or "haphazard." Zunar created this collection to satirize the massive administrative and political disorientation gripping Malaysia following the collapse of the previous government. The book serves as sharp political commentary on the Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration under Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. It heavily lampoons high-profile political scandals, the "betrayal of the people's mandate," and what Zunar described as clueless leadership during a national crisis. Specific targets of the satire include pandemic-era blunders such as the Doraemon voice controversy, the "warm water cure" claim (air suam), double-standard law enforcement favoring ministers over everyday citizens, and the administration's controversial attempt to declare a national state of emergency (darurat). Zunar released the book directly through his web store, framing it as a form of "humor therapy" to ease public anxiety caused by the simultaneous pressures of health lockdowns and political instability.

Cartoon-O-Phobia
Jul 2010
Publisher: Kinibooks
Length: 80 pages
Price: RM25
Status: Banned! Investigated under the Sedition Act.
Zunar created this book to criticize the Malaysian government, which he described as being terrified of cartoons. This publication followed the banning of his previous books and aggressive state actions. Authorities had raided printing factories, threatening to revoke their licenses if they printed Zunar’s books in the future. Bookshop owners were also threatened with legal action if they continued to sell his work. Just hours before the book’s official launch, Zunar was arrested under the Sedition Act and placed in a police lockup. During a raid on his office, police confiscated all copies of the book and an original artwork. The printing factory and the office of the publisher, Malaysiakini, were also raided. Zunar legally challenged his detention, but the court ruled that the police had the right to arrest him. However, the court ordered that the confiscated books and artwork be returned. The original drawing, which depicted Rosmah Mansor with exaggeratedly large hair, was damaged after being kept by the police for five years. Consequently, the court ordered the police and the Malaysian government to pay Zunar RM18,000 in damages.

Publisher: Malaysiakini (Kinibooks)
Length: 104 pages
Price: RM25
Status: Banned
In May 2010, the Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) banned 1 FUNNY MALAYSIA on the grounds that it was "prejudicial to public order." Bookshop owners were also threatened with court action if they continued selling the book. Zunar challenged this ban in court. Although he lost the initial suit, he appealed the decision. In November 2015, the Federal Court of Malaysia unanimously ruled in Zunar's favor and dismissed the government's appeal. The highest court upheld the Court of Appeal's decision to overturn the ban, declaring the restriction unjustified. The authorities were ordered to return all confiscated copies to Zunar. During the proceedings, the Court of Appeal highlighted that cartoons should not be held to the same literal standards as serious literature, as their fundamental purpose is to "exaggerate, satirize, and parody life."

In May 2010, the Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) banned the book for being "prejudicial to public order," leading to police raids and the confiscation of thousands of copies nationwide. Authorities raided printing factories and threatened to revoke their licenses if they printed the book in the future. Bookstore owners faced similar legal threats for selling it.
